Obviously you can't take enough pictures of Machu Picchu on this beautiful day. The tall mountain in the background is known as "Wayna Picchu". Mas, Lili and I eventually climb that beast ...

More shots from more angles of Machu Picchu. Hey, now everyone's getting into the act. What's this? A Microsoft intern in Machu Picchu?!

After a day of traveling on the Inka Trail, and catching views of Machu Picchu, we stayed in a town in the valley known as "Aguas Calientes" (Hot Waters). There's a bus that takes you from Machu Picchu down to Aguas Calientes in the valley.

Mas and I in Aguas Calientes. Both the river and the train run right through the middle of the town. Vendors, hotels and hostels line up on either side.
|
After a night in Aguas Calientes (including a visit to the Hot Springs), we return refreshed to Machu Picchu for closer exploration. Unfortunately, I have a bit of a hangover since we met up with Pavel (Lili's boyfriend) and his group at a local dive bar.

Yet another shot of Machu Picchu on a beautiful morning.
|
Almost immediately, we bumped into a herd of llamas -- there's even a small Vicunya (brown and white -- very rare) that this herd appears to have adopted.
|
Smile! This was a cool shot. This herd of llamas showed up behind Mas all of a sudden and nearly scared the bejeezus out of her. Actually, I guess it wasn't that funny since a few minutes later, the herd took off down the trail and nearly bumped a tourist-woman off the path. One of the llamas even spit up on an unsuspecting gentleman and soaked him. Gross!
